Ricky Williams. You either love him or you hate him. Me, I loved the guy. He has always been one of my favorite Dolphins players despite what he put the team through back in 2004, during the Wannstedt years. Some people still hold a grudge against him for that, but I think the majority of Dolphin fans have forgiven him for that. He has been an upstanding person and teammate over the past 3 years. In fact, at least in my opinion, the best running back also.
To understand Ricky, you have to understand what he went through with his bi-polar disorder. I think I have a pretty good understanding of what he dealt with. My girlfriend of 9 years suffers with an extreme case of bi-polar disorder. You just couldn't begin to believe some of the crap I had to deal with before she was properly diagnosed and put on the right medication. The drugs and alcohol, the violent outbursts out of nowhere. It's a real and debilitating disorder that to this day some people refuse to acknowledge. But I can tell you it's real.
What level Ricky went through I couldn't tell you, but I could definitely see the signs, a couple being his anti-social behavior and drug use. But just like my girlfriend, once he was properly diagnosed he became a different person.
So I would like to wish Ricky all the best. I hope he has a great season and goes far...unless of course we happen to meet him in the playoffs :)
