Former Dolphins Legend dies

Eddie Jones has passed away at the age of 74. Eddie was the president of the Miami Dolphins from 1988-2005 and was running the team through some of the biggest moments in Dolphins history. He was there for the end of Shula and Marino's career. He was there for the ownership transition from the Robbie Family to Wayne Huizenga. And he was there for the entire JJ era. Through all of Eddie's time running the organization the Dolphins were a top team and a playoff contender year in and year out.

Chris Clemons favorite to start at Safety

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald is reporting that Chris Clemons is the favorite to start at Safety this year after what the coaches have seen in the mini-camps. It is expected that Clemons and Reshad Jones will be the starting safety's.

Brandon Marshall Still Crazy!

I know he isn't on the Dolphins anymore so I won't spend a lot of time on this but it is worth mentioning because this story sums up Brandon Marshall and his craziness in a nutshell.

Brandon invites a Chicago newspaper reporter to live with him for a few days in Florida. When the guy arrives Brandon tells him no questions and no pictures. He takes the guy golfing at a ritzy golf course and plays the holes out of order and quits after 14 holes. Brandon begins comparing himself to JFK...(yes the president) in a roundabout way. Then in the end Brandon turns on the reporter and verbally attacks the story and calling it a scumbag piece and ignores the man. Pretty much the same ole, same ole with Brandon Marshall. CLICK HERE to read the entire saga.

Kris Jenkins rips Ochocinco

Former Jets DT and now SNY Reporter Kris Jenkins was on Sirius/XM radio last week and said a lot of bad things about new Dolphins WR Chad Ochocinco. CLICK HERE

Former Jets defensive lineman Kris Jenkins, now a New York-area broadcaster, on Sirius XM Radio: “Chad Ochocinco is all about self. I don’t think [his act] has any positive place in football. It’s really in his best interests to stick to reality TV, instead of possibly weighing a team down because he wants to go out there and be pretty. It is definitely going to be to the detriment of the Miami Dolphins. They don’t have the type of talent to get things done.”

Post Mini Camp Press Conferences

Ryan Tannehill  CLICK HERE

Tannehill has a good day with the 1st team offense

Ryan Tannehill got a lot of reps with the 1st team offense today in Mini-Camp. While there were some bad things (as expected with any rookie QB) there were a lot of good things. From many reports the good is outweighing the bad.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald had this write up about Tannehill's day. CLICK HERE

Here is a little tidbit of the good...

The good: He made several sharp throws, including an excellent slant to Julius Pruitt, who took a 20 yard pass and ran another 30 for a touchdown. Clyde Gates also had a long gain on a short pass from Tannehill, mostly from run after catch.
He made a terrific throw to Legedu Naane and another on a 25-yarder to Roberto Wallace, who made a sideline catch on Chris Clemons. On another play, he rolled right and delivered a nifty 15-yard throw to Anthony Fasano. His mobility was on display when he rolled left, then turned and ran to the right for an eight-yard game.

Anthony Fasano NOT a fan of HBO Hard Knocks

Dolphins Tight End (at least for 1 more year) Anthony Fasano was on SIRIUS/XM Radio today and said when the news was given to the Dolphins that they would be on HBO Hard Knocks that there were groans in the room. Fasano went on to say he isn't a real fan of the Dolphins being on the show.

With that said I just want to say, who cares? Seriously, some of the players groaning probably won't even be on the team this year or are guys like Fasano who are being phased out of this franchise as he enters the last year of his contract. This just in, the Dolphins most likely aren't winning the Super Bowl this upcoming year (and if you seriously think they are, then go place a big bet in Vegas and set yourself up for life). Doing Hard Knocks was about getting some positive press around this organization. Letting people know all the "negativity" and "stories" out there about the Fins aren't necessarily true. The Dolphins doing Hard Knocks is a necessary evil. It needed to be done and if the likes of Anthony Fasano don't like it, well then too bad. There is a reason this organization drafted Charles Clay and Michael Egnew the last 2 years. Read the writing on the wall Fasano.

Ross wants New Uniforms and Partial Roof

NFL.com has details of what was said by Stephen Ross on a conference call with some season ticket holders last night. Ross stated he agrees with those that say the team needs some updated uniforms and that they are looking at things. You won't see any changes though till 2013 at the earliest.

Ross also stated he would like to keep Sun-Life Stadium an open air stadium with the field exposed to the sun but the fans covered by some sort of roof to make their gameday experience more enjoyable.

Ochocinco Worth a Shot?

The Dolphins will be bringing Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson in for a workout this coming week. Browsing the internet forums to gauge how fans feel about this, I have seen everything from full support to the idea to a few suggestions that HBO is behind this idea. While I'm sure it wouldn't hurt HBO's Hard Knocks ratings, I don't they are behind this!

My first thoughts were, we just got rid of one diva, headache WR, why bother with Ochocinco? He is older than Brandon Marshall and likely less effective. Then again, Marshall was only effective when he was catching passes, not dropping them which he seemed to do more often than not.

Last season was one of Ochocinco's worst statistical seasons. If you're a receiver and you can't put up good numbers with Tom Brady throwing to you, how effective can you really be with Matt Moore, David Garrard or rookie Ryan Tannehill throwing to you? That was another one of my thoughts. Well, maybe he just didn't connect with Brady? Maybe there was no comfort level between the two?

One thing that Marshall brings a lot of that Ochocinco doesn't is baggage. While Ochocinco is a motor mouth, he's never really been in any trouble. With Marshall, you've got all the domestic violence stuff, him beating his wife, her stabbing him and so forth. You've got his bipolar, his man love for Jay Cutler. It's always something with him. (Did I mention dropped passes yet?)

So what can a workout hurt? The guy is 34, so he's not what he used to be. But he also likely knows there won't be too many more opportunities out there so he might want to make the best of this one. Bring him in, work him out, bring him to camp. If he works out, great. If it doesn't...well, at least he didn't cost anything.

Circus coming to town

Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports and the NFL Network is reporting the Dolphins will workout Chad Johnson (aka Ochocinco) this upcoming week. Let the side-show Circus begin!

Brown Lands In San Diego

Scout.com reports that former Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown has signed a one year deal with the San Diego Chargers. The former 1st round pick of the Dolphins spent the 2011 season with the Philadelphia Eagles. In a back up role, Brown rushed for 136 yards and 1 touchdown.

Former Dolphins D-linemen Merling lands in Green Bay

Former Dolphins BUST draft pick Philip Merling who spent 4 years in Tony Sparano's dog-house while he was in Miami has landed with the Green Bay Packers according to the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal SentinelMerling who in Miami was always the last one to arrive and the first one to leave, constantly overweight, being a dog in practice and never giving a full effort, arrested for domestic violence against his girlfriend, and someone who put in little to no extra work on his own now says he is taking football more seriously.

And a quote that should scare the hell out of all Packers fans is this... “You start to put things in perspective and football is important to me. I’m going to do my best to continue to keep playing the game.”

To me he sounds like a guy who is only playing for a paycheck. He says football is "important to him"  and "I'm going to do my best keep playing the game."   ME ME ME ME ME! That's all I am hearing. And reading between the lines is a nice way of saying he needs football to make money.

So happy he is out of Miami. Best of luck GB trying to turn this nut-case around.

The Dolphins are getting back to football and the days of the "glitz-n-glamour" of celebrities and the Orange Carpet outside the stadium prior to the game are over with.
