The surgery was completed today and three months from today is September 23rd which is the Tuesday after the Week 3 game. So, Miami will not have Pouncey for the Patriots, Bills, and Chiefs games to open the regular season. That is if the rehab goes well and there is no suspension. Figure Pouncey will need at least a week to get into "game shape" and get worked back into the offensive line and then figure he will get a 1 or 2 game suspension. Smart money is on Pouncey's first game this year being Week 6 vs Green Bay if everything goes to schedule and he doesn't get a crazy suspension. The Dolphins have their BYE week during Week 5. This will give Pouncey an extra week to prepare and factors in a possible 1 game suspension he is facing. If the rehab doesn't go smoothly and he is out longer than 3 months or the suspension is more than 1 game and longer well then you are looking at late October or early November for his return.
Where do the Dolphins go now for center? Well, Nate Garner has played some center for the Fins in the past but he is brittle and always injured. He can't be depended on to hold down the spot for any extended period of time. Shelly Smith was working a lot during the early part of OTA's at center (in preparation for a possibly Pouncey suspension) but his level of play at center was poor. Terrible shotgun snaps and just beaten badly often. A sleeper name to keep an eye on his undrafted rookie free agent Tyler Larsen out of Utah St. He has experience playing center and is extremely strong. His lack of athleticism and experience playing vs top tier competition may be too much to overcome though.
In other Dolphins news Knowshon Moreno is officially having knee surgery and will be out 4-5 weeks. Moreno should be back by the first preseason game.
