Back-up Running Back Battle
It's clear that the #1 running back on the roster is Lamar Miller. Miller has taken the majority of the snaps on the first team offense and has excelled in the Dolphins screen game. The question the Dolphins have in the backfield is, who will take over the #2 role. Much to the dismay of Dolphins fans, Daniel Thomas and 2nd year RB Mike Gillislee have filled that role during this weeks OTA's. Newly acquired RB Knowshon Moreno has spent his time working on his fitness instead of taking first team snaps with the team as he came to Miami out of shape. It will be interesting to watch which running back will split the reps with Miller tomorrow.
It's hard to tell this early in offseason practices who's on the mend, who's completely healthy or who's battling through nagging injuries. A lot of players with injury history, or a lot of wear and tear on their bodies will usually take scrimmages off. But I'm interested to see a few Dolphins players in particular. WR Brandon Gibson, who injured his knee (torn patella) late last season, has been an active participant in most of the Dolphins activities this week including the WR skeleton drill. Gibson has said that he should be 100% by training camp, but I wouldn't be surprised if the coaching staff sits him out tomorrow and lets some young guys get his reps. I don't expect to see DT Jared Odrick, who has missed all of the Dolphins OTAs. And C Mike Pouncey and CB Cortland Finnegan were sidelined with undisclosed injuries today and we could see them all take a seat tomorrow alongside Brandon Gibson for tomorrows scrimmage.
