VIDEO: Devante Parker Highlights

Dolphins Select Devante Parker at #14

The draft gods were looking kindly upon the Miami Dolphins. WR Devante Parker out of Louisville who was expected by many to go before pick #14 fell to the Dolphins and the Fins got their big play WR who only has had 3 drops in 2 years. With Parker, Landry, Stills, and Jennings along with Jordan Cameron at TE the Dolphins have stockpiled weapons for Ryan Tannehill. And remember the Fins will have Parker on a rookie contract for 5 years, Landry on a rookie contract for 4 more years, and Stills on a rookie contract for 3 more years. That's how you work the salary cap! Great night for the Dolphins and welcome Devante Parker to Miami!

Last Minute Draft Rumors Concerning the Fins

DolphinsTalk.com All night tonight for the latest Draft News and Rumors. Wall to Wall coverage and we aren't playing video games like others. Here is the latest concerning players and positions that impact the Dolphins...

--Miami Herald reporting Todd Gurley will miss at least 4 weeks of the Regular season. The ACL injury is recovering nicely but he won't be ready for the preseason or September.

--Per Albert Breer the run on offensive linemen could happen early. Players like Cam Erving might get drafted in the teens which wasn't expected in the lead-up to the drat. A run on o-line early on could push an unlikely player to 14 for the Fins to take.

-Per Daniel Jeremiah the Rams and Fins are logical trade Partners. Miami to get ahead of Minny and Cleveland to select Devante Parker the WR out of Louisville. The Rams are in love with Ereck Flowers the OT from U. of Miami who should be there at 14.

-Evan Mathis to Miami rumors are still out there. Trade probably wouldn't happen till Saturday thought.

Enjoy the Draft!

C3 Dolphins Final Mock Draft

Finally. Draft Day. It's always one of my favorite days every year. I remember when the draft was held on the 3rd Tuesday of every April. I would cut class to watch it on some new channel, called ESPN. Ah, those were the days. Before I begin to drift down memory lane, a couple things about this draft. In my final mock draft, no trades, too hard to predict. However, I would not be surprised if Brandon Boykin, CB, for the Philadelphia Eagles was a Miami Dolphin by the end of the weekend. The problem with all the Eagles players on the trade block is they are in the final year of their contract. The Dolphins need cheap talent to manage the salary cap going forward, not just one year fillers that will want to get paid next year. I had the Dolphins taking Todd Gurley in my first mock draft. (It seemed to get a little more popular after that, just saying.) I have seen where lots of fans say we have Lamar Miller and Gurley would be a luxury. If Gurley's medical checks out and he falls to #14, you take him. He is elite. When you get an opportunity to draft an elite player, I don't care what position he plays, you draft him. He might start the year on the PUP? Who cares. You don't draft a guy for the first 6-8 games of his career.

Round 1 - The Dolphins certainly have had little to no luck as of late dealing with this draft. It seems that some of the edge rushers who would push WR's down the board this year, like smoking pot. A possible trade chip in Dion Jordan likes other things, at least staying hydrated. I was ready to go with La'el Collins at #14, however without knowing his involvement, if any, with this situation in Baton Rogue, sorry he is off my board. Why Collins anyway? I fear that Cooper, White, Parker and Gurley will all be gone by #14. And though I would not be opposed to trading up if the Fins got their guy, with only 6 picks they do not have the ammo. I am tempted to take Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin but it's too early,  so me that leaves WR Breshad Perriman as the the pick. I am not in love with this pick, but I keep hearing Dez Bryant comparisons and he's only played football for 6 years ( he started playing his Sophomore year in High School.), so he should continue to improve. His size and speed are too tempting, plus it would fit the Dolphins modus operandi to draft a wide receiver that has problems catching the football.

Round 2 - I expect this to be the round that Dennis Hickey makes his money. Like last year, I would expect a couple of trades so he can get more picks. In my last mock I had the Fins taking Stephone Anthony LB from Clemson, I think he is gone by now. Further, even with Jordan's suspension, the Miami brass may like their LB's more than we think. The Dolphins need their 1st and 2nd round picks to come in play and produce right away. Clive Walford, TE from the U should be able to join the TE rotation right away and contribute. He instantly replaces Charles Clay.

Round 4 - The Fins still have a lot of holes to fill. At this point, they have given Ryan Tannehill some shiny new toys to play with. The logic would be to go defense, but I think the Fins stick with the offensive theme here. Tannehill needs to stay upright. Jarvis Harrison, G, Texas A&M is the pick.

Round 5 - Finally the Fins jump on the defensive theme with back to back picks. Senquez Golson, CB, Ole Miss. He is tiny at 5'9", but the Fins are used to short corners, and he has play maker written all over him. Miami follows that up with Gerod Holliman, FS Louisville.

Round 6 - The Fins finally get some linebacker help. Zach Vigil, ILB Utah State.

Recap:
Round 1 - Breshad Perriman, WR, UCF
Round 2 - Clive Walford, TE, University of Miami
Round 4 - Jarvis Harrison, G, Texas A&M
Round 5 - Senquez Golson, CB, Ole Miss
Round 5 - Gerod Holliman, FS, Louisville
Round 6 - Zach Vigil, ILB, Utah State

Everybody have a great Draft weekend! Go Dolphins!

BREAKING: Dion Jordan Fails 3rd Drug Test; Suspended for Entire 2015 Season

So much for being able to Trade Dion Jordan this week. The NFL today Suspended Dion Jordan for the entire 2015 Season for failing his 3rd drug test. ESPN is also reporting the Eagles and Dolphins were in talks of a trade that would have sent Jordan to Philly this week. Obviously now that trade is off and Jordan's future on the Dolphins and in the NFL in general is in doubt if not over.

Three Hot Topics Around the Dolphins

Offseason workout? Nah, Dion skipped that for this instead
With the NFL Draft less than a week away there is a lot of news and rumors in Dolphins land these days. Let's break down three hot topics surrounding the Dolphins.

1) Dion Jordan and the Dolphins rocky relationship
It appears Dion Jordan and the Dolphins are on the outs these days in a major way. Dion was the only member of the team not to show up for the first of the Dolphins offseason workouts this past week. For a guy who has failed multiple drug tests, has made no impact on the field at all in two years you would have to wonder what could he be thinking skipping these? Well, it looks like the kid is just a total bust of a player. Lazy, unmotivated, and on drugs. Safe to say he flat out doesn't care. If he is trying to force his way out of Miami well he is doing a good job of it as he will probably get his wish.

I read a report last night that when Jordan failed his two drug tests last year it voided out a large portion if not all of his guaranteed money in 2015 and 2016 which now makes it easier for the Dolphins to cut him or trade him. Trading him will be tough if not impossible since he has two failed drug tests and is one failed drug test away from a one year suspension. Not to mention his contract isn't very cap friendly and would be tough to move. Remember though Mike Tannenbaum found a way to trade Ellerbee and Wallace who also had bad contracts so I will give Mr.T the benefit of the doubt he could find a way to trade Jordan. Two realistic landing spots for Jordan would be Philadelphia and Dallas. Philly for obvious reasons as they were going to take him 4th in the 2013 NFL Draft if Miami didn't trade up to grab him and his old college coach Chip Kelly is there. Dallas because they are in the need of a pass rusher after Greg Hardy will now miss 10 games. Could and should the Dolphins cut him? I say yes that seems more realistic honsetly.

Oh and wondering where Dion Jordan was when he skipped the offseason working. Look at the above picture. He was on vacation with his girlfriend of the week.

2) Todd Gurley: Legit Option at #14 or a Smokescreen
To me this has smokescreen all over it. There are three teams picking after Miami that are in desperate need of a running back. San Diego, Baltimore, and Dallas. With the news this past week that Gurley is on the fact track to being 100% and his knee is all but fine, the Gurley hype is going through the roof. I have seen some drafts having him go as high as #6 now to the Jets. While I don't think Gurley will go in the Top 10 nothing would shock me. There have been numerous reports (both local in Miami and National) that the Fins are very interested in Gurley at #14 and might take him.

To me this is a total smokescreen and some draft day strategy to maybe get a team to trade up and grab him. For one, Lamar Miller is coming off a very very good year so why are the Fins even looking at a RB of this level and someone who would come in and replace Miller from Day 1? Second, the Dolphins have glaring needs at Offensive Guard, Linebacker, Corner, and Wide Receiver. Drafting a running back does nothing to improve this team. Third, there is a chance Gurley gets a setback in rehab and could start the year on PUP and miss the first 6 weeks. While I understand the Dolphins desire to get a running back to compliment Miller, I don't see using a top half first round pick on one as being wise.

Also, something to keep in mind. It was reported (by Omar Kelly I believe) that the Mike Tannenbaum is BFF's (Omar didn't use that term but esentially that's what they are) with the agent for Gurley. So, by this "leaked info" that the Fins are interested in Gurley it might force a team to trade up in Rd 1 to grab Gurley. Which means more $$$money$$$ for Gurley and more $$$money$$$ for Gurley's agent. Could Tannenbaum be doing his BFF a solid by leaking info the Fins are interested in him to drum up interested for his BFF's client?! Could be the case. In fact gun to my head I believe that to be the case.

3) Greg Jennings and why this signing was brilliant
The Dolphins added Greg Jennings at WR this week and it was a brilliant move. First off people talk about Greg Jennings like he is in his 40's the guy is only 31 years old and has been putting up productive seasons as of late. His numbers last year in Minnesota with a rookie QB and no running game weren't awful. Put him in a better offense with a real QB (yes Tannehill is a real QB people) and he could be a 75-80 catch guy with 900 yards and 7-8 TD's. Which isn't bad for a two year $8 million deal. Is Jennings the long-term answer and a #1 WR? Hell no. Is he a good fit for this team? HELL YES! And signing Jennings doesn't mean the Dolphins won't look to add another WR in Rounds 1 or 2 of the draft. If Parker falls to them at 14 they will jump on that. If someone like Dorsett is there in Rd 2 of course Miami will be all over him. And if nobody is there worth taking at either spot Miami can now wait until the mid-rounds to find a WR they like. The signing of Jennings doesn't solve the WR problem Miami has, it just puts a band aid on it and doesn't force Miami to reach for a WR in rounds 1 or 2 now next week at the draft.

Fins sign WR Greg Jennings

The Dolphins signed Free Agent WR Greg Jennings today to a 2 year $8 million deal. Jennings will be a day 1 starter for the Fins and bring a lot of valuable experience to a young WR corp. Jennings was cut by Minnesota when Miami traded Mike Wallace to the Vikings in March.

This move also creates options for Miami in Rd 1 of the draft. Miami which was desperate for a WR as they were very thin at the position depth chart wise now has the option to look at other areas when they are on the clock in Rd 1. WR isn't such a need they need to reach to take someone who might not be worthy of their pick when they are on the clock.

A solid signing all around for the Dolphins today.

No December games up north, the last 5 games all in warm weather cities with 4 of the 5 being in Miami. The NFL's way of thanking the Dolphins for giving up a home divisional game to play in London?
Other than the divisional games, the ones I'm most looking forward to are:
Houston. The only team Miami has never beaten. This could be the year that streak ends.
Indianapolis. Luck Vs Tannehill III
The game I am most looking forward to? Dallas. Already have my ticket for that one :)

Miami Dolphins 2015 Schedule is Out

Here is the Schedule....CLICK HERE

Some things that stick out...

1) Fins play ONLY 2 games in Sun Life Stadium the first 10 weeks of the year. Only 2 true home games first 10 week....season will be won or lost then.

2) Fins end the year with 4 of 5 at home, which is nice (if they can stay afloat early on)

3) Fins open soft vs 2 downright bad teams, must get off to a good start.

4) Fins really avoid any bad cold weather game. Only chance for bad weather is Nov 29th vs Jets.

My top 5 draft picks for 2015

As we fast approach the NFL draft, many different pundits have different takes on what Miami would look at.  I am no different and would like to share my top 5 picks for Miami at 14.

1.  DeVante Parker-  It seems like it will be a pipe dream at this point.  Parker has been sky rocketing up draft boards and could go as high as 7-12 picks.  Miami, being at 14, would have to trade up if they truly love Parker.  According to many Dolphins writers, that seems to be the case.  However, trading up isn't really in the cards unless they offer up players with a swap of firsts.

2.  Todd Gurley-  Gurley was one of the top prospects in this draft prior to his ACL tear in November.  He seems to be recovering well and should be ready for training camp.  Gurley is the power back that Miami is searching for.  The team struggles on third downs and short distances.  It seems Lazor has Tannehill passing on those situations due to lack of trust with the interior OL and the running backs size.  Gurley would fill a huge need and allow Miami to run the ball more.

3.  La'el Collins- Speaking of interior OL, La'el Collins would fill an immediate need at OG.  He played LT in college but could make the switch.  The dude is a mauler and will allow better protection for Tannehill, and give the running game a signifigant boost.  He could also be a plug and play if Albert is not ready for the first couple weeks of the season (even though Albert is working out with the team as we speak).

4.  Marcus Peters- I don't agree with most when putting Trae Waynes at the head of this class.  Marcus Peters is the most complete CB in this draft.  He has the size and physicallity that Miami sorely needs.  Granted, Miami does have depth at corner (Taylor, McCain, Davis, who could start opposite Grimes), but it seems like the franchise isn't sold on them.  Peters does have character concerns (Philbin hates problem characters), but this guy is the real deal.  Philbin may not even be here next year.

5.  Bershad Perriman-  Perriman has also shot up draft boards with great workouts and pro day.  He has the size and speed to help the offense and can be a plug and play now.  Granted I am not completely sold on him, but WR is the biggest need in this draft.  They need to land one but may reach.  Over time, Perriman could be what we all wanted Wallace to be.  It still depends on if the QB can hit the long ball in stride

Zack Bowman Signs with Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have inked Zack Bowman to a contract.  Terms of the contract have not yet been released.  Bowman is a 7 year NFL veteran who has spent time with the Bears and Giants, most recently with the latter.  He will bring a veteran leadership to the CB room and may compete for a starting job opposite Grimes.

Dolphins finalize a contract extension with center with Mike Pouncey

The Miami Dolphins are working on a contract extension with pro bowl center Mike Pouncey to be around $40 million. With this Pouncey will be the first 1st round pick since Ronnie Brown to be given an extension. Also giving Pouncey an extension will free up cap space that the Dolphins can use. The terms of the contract extension is 5 years for $52.15 making him the highest paid center in the league.

PFF report on WR draft class 2015

Good morning Phin fans! I came across this article this morning and wanted to touch base about the incoming draft class of 2015, particularly the WR class.  To note, PFF focuses on many metrics to determine their rankings. One name that you will see pop up frequently is DeAndre Smelter out of Georgia Tech. No, I'm not saying he is a top of the draft candidate but the article points him out as a mid round sleeper. The link is below. Enjoy the read!

Former Dolphins CB Arrested in Ponzi Scheme

Former Miami Dolphins CB Will Allen has been arrested for running a Ponzi Scheme. According to reports Allen raised $32 million from investors and used $7 million on personal expenses while passing out $18 million in loans. The complaint says they used money from some investors to pay other investors while pocketing millions for themselves.

Breaking: Greg Jennings visiting Dolphins today

Per Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins are hosting Greg Jennings today at team headquarters.  Miami is in desperate need of landing a veteran presence in the receiving room.  While I am on board with bringing him in, I still believe drafting a WR in the first two rounds of this years draft is vital for long term success.  Matt Hazel and Rishard Matthews could possibly be on the chopping block if these moves are made.  Stay tuned to Dolphinstalk.com for more information as we get it.

4 Players Away

So what now……..

The signing of Ndamukong Suh made me feel like the first win of the year against New England.  Finding out that we could have had Jimmy Graham made me feel like the loss to Packers…”what could have been”.  Losing Mike Wallace made me feel like the win against the Jets “we won but”.  Getting rid of Ellebe and Wheeler and gaining Stills made me feel like the Chargers blow out win.  Losing Clay and gaining Jordan made me feel like the Buffalo loss and win….shoulda won them both…All in all  Free Agency has made me feel like I did at the end of season.  The Dolphins in 2014 and Free Agency 2015  leave me with that  8-8 feeling of blah blah blah.

Fortunately, unlike the 2014 season we still have “games to play”.  Aside form the Suh signing the best part of free agency is that we still have gap space.  There are several serviceable NFL players on the street whose salary demands will decrease as we get closer to the draft.  The Dolphins have to get at least one starter and a couple of back up guys as Free Agency winds down.  The Dolphins first and second round draft picks have to be day 1 starters!!!!!!!!

The Dolphins, like many on the cusp teams are only a few players away from becoming a playoff team.   The Dolphins are only 4 players away….That’s right only 4 players away!!!!!

How can I say that you ask?

This is a QB league and the Dolphins have there QB.  Tannehill has improved every year.  I tweeted that when you consider his offensive line, his receiving corp and running back situation  in his first three years, it remarkable that he is not David Carr clone. Yet Tannehill is a top 15 QB right now.  Ryan is not Brady or Manning but he can certainly be a top 10 QB or higher.  His stats have gotten better every year as the pieces around him have gotten better.

Offensively, the Dolphins are one guard and one big play receiver from being a very good offense.  Lamar Miller broke the 1000 yd barrier and he has steadily improved.  K. Moreno made him better, he learned how to be a professional and now I believe he is ready for 1300 yards.  The offensive line still has problems. One quality guard can fix that.    With a healthy Alberts coupled with Pouncey and James the tackle and center positions are above average.  The Dolphins have options at one guard position and competition should fix that.  Finding another guard should not be this hard and I believe that Tannebaum and Hickey will address this.  Ryan showed in 2014 that he is willing to go to his 3rd and 4th reads when given time and his accuracy can be deadly.  Landry, Jordan, and Cameron are a formidable group.  The Dolphins are 1 quality starting receiver from being explosive.  Tannehill loves the middle of the field and adding Jordan will give Landry many opportunities and he will be a 1000 yard receiver (You heard it here first).  Landry reminds me of Webster Slaughter who I played with.  He does not drop balls and he is fearless.  He thinks he is the best and prepares and plays like it.  Landry is a number 1 slot receiver, when healthy Jordan is a number 1 tight endd, Still is a quality 2 and adding 1 more quality receiver will make the offense explosive.

The defense is 2 starters from being a top defense in the League.  Over a 100 million dollars is a crap load of money for a defensive lineman.  Mr. Suh and J.J. Watts are the exceptions.  There are not enough bodies to double Cam and Suh and Vernon will get paid because of Mr. Suh.  For the Dolphins to be dominant on defense we need a starting corner and a linebacker.    The linebackers group has been dismantled.  Good riddance to “those two” linebackers.  Jelani Jenkins had a break out year and he will be much better with the experience.  Misi was average at MLB but adding Suh just added 20 tackles to Misi because of the double teams.  If we move Misi back outside then we need a middle linebacker if we don’t then we need an outside backer.  Either way, we are only one linebacker away.  The Dolphins have decided to leave Jordan at end but I suspect he will add depth to the linebacker position.  We are one quality CB away.  That DB may be on our roster in Will Davis or Jamar Taylor.  Injuries have hurt both young players and both will be given a chance to start and a lot of the success of the defense will depend on them.  They won’t have to cover long because of the D-Line and Coyle simplifying the defense should really help the position.  We are good at safety position provided that Delmas is healthy.  We have depth on defense and are really on 2 players away, thanks to Mr. Suh.

So you see, we are only 4 players away.  The draft should address at least two of those positions and the extra cap space should address the other two.  Surely, Tannebaum and Hickey can fill those positions and I won’t be left feeling like 8-8 blah blah blah next year.

C3 Dolphins Mock Draft #1

Less than 4 weeks away from Draft night. It’s an interesting draft. Last years draft was touted as being deep and it was. This year, not so much. The number I keep reading is 15 first rounder’s in this draft. Do I believe that? Who knows, however I think the Fins could have a pivotal slot at #14. The ability to trade back and pick up more draft picks & players may very well present itself and Mike Tannenbaum, Dennis Hickey and Joe Philbin may take depth and potential over plug and play. With my first mock I will not include any trades,  mock #2 may.

Round 1 – Mock drafts have not come to any real consensus for the Fins, though Louisville WR DeVante Parker is gaining steam.  A part of me wants Parker there at #14, but I sense he is off the board by the time Miami is on the clock.  I liked Eric Kendricks here for a while, but I think the Fins feel content with waiting for an ILB later in the draft. I think the Fins go BPA, and draft Georgia RB Todd Gurley. In my mind Gurley is special. He instantly makes the Dolphins offense dangerous. I continually read how the coaching staff thinks Lamar Miller wears down after 15 carries a game. Gurley would guarantee that does not happen and allows the Fins to let Miller walk if need be when he becomes a free agent. I think Gurley has the biggest affect on the Fins come draft night, if someone takes him earlier then expected (top #10), I think Parker could fall to #14. Or if he is there, someone may want to trade up for him. But for now I think the Fins take the quite possibly the best player in the draft (if healthy).

Round 2 - In my heart, I want Miami WR Phillip Dorsett on the board come round 2, but I think he will be gone. I bet the Dolphins Brass would love the dilemma of picking between Dorsett and Clemson ILB Stephone Anthony. NO guarantee Anthony is on the board either, but the pick here is Anthony. Joe Philbin may love Koa Misi, but Philbin may not be here next year, neither may Misi.  Anthony fills a need and allows Misi to be moved back to SLB if need be.

Round 4 – With the departure of Charles Clay, TE becomes a bigger need.  TE Jordan Cameron essentially is on a 1 year prove it deal. I like Dion Sims a lot, and think he is ready to take a big step. Last year’s 5th round pick Arthur Lynch gets some competition, the Fins take Ohio State TE Jeff Heurman.  At 6’5” Heurman gives Ryan Tannehill another big red zone target and could become Cameron’s replacement.

Round 5 – It wouldn’t shock me if the Miami doubled up on the same position in round 5, like CB. However, I think the offensive theme continues at least with one of our two 5th round, back to back picks. (#149 & #150 ) Finally, the Fins grab a wide receiver. Central Michigan WR Titus Davis gets the first call.  Good route runner, Fins have shown interest. The second call goes to another need position, speedy Louisville CB Charles Gaines.

Round 6 - You know if the draft unfolds like this, by round 6 Dennis Hickey would be itching to take a small school player. However, taking BPA that slides a little is a much better idea, the Fins grab the slowest db at the combine, TCU FS Chris Hackett.

Recap:
Round 1 – Todd Gurley, RB Georgia
Round 2 – Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson
Round 4 – Jeff Huerman, TE Ohio State
Round 5 – Titus Davis, WR Central Michigan
Round 5 – Charles Gaines, CB Louisville
Round 6 – Chris Hackett, FS, TCU

Have a great and blessed weekend!

BRIAN HARTLINE BILLBOARD / NEW WIDE RECEIVER PICKS

What are your thoughts on Brian Hartline buying a billboard for the Miami Dolphins after going to the Cleveland Browns?
I thought Hartline was a great addition to the team with
74 passes for 1,083 yards last season. But, I guess the issue was likely that he was overpaid like Wes Welker. Hopefully, with the addition of Jordan Cameron, Kenny Stills, and Devante Parker the pass game won't be a problem for Tannehill!
Also, on the lookout is Phillip Dorsett at WR, Kevin White WR, and Clive Walford TE .

NEW SUNLIFE STADIUM

Construction on the new Sun Life stadium is underway and construction is going along fast! What are your thoughts on the new stadium? The seats have gone from bright orange to all aqua everything! The most exciting part is the modernization of the interior and the suite seats and the open air canopy.

Here are some of the new features that will be included:

  • Open air canopy to provide shade/cover
  • Brand new seats in the entire stadium
  • Completely renovated concourses and concessions,
  • Brand new suites
  • Several brand new/unique seating & club options for fans, businesses and families
  • 4 new high-definition video boards in each corner of the stadium
